FemArt (FA)– Cristina, per començar i posar una mica en context a la gent que no et conegui, vols amb les teves paraules, fer-nos un resum de la teva trajectòria artística? 

Cristina Daura (CD)– Jo vaig estudiar il·lustració a l’escola Massana i quan em vaig graduar vaig fer una extensió als Estats Units, que era una opció que la Massana oferia. Després vaig estar molts anys de bala perduda perquè era el temps de la crisi, no hi havia treball per enlloc i menys si et dedicaves a un treball artístic. Això era més o menys cap al 2011, la crisi ja venia des del 2008, i en aquest temps vaig donar molts pals de cec. Jo crec que a la il·lustració i qualsevol vessant creativa, quan acabes la carrera encara t’estàs formant i buscant el teu estil. Jo em sentia una mica perduda i durant uns quatre anys vaig treballar un munt. Però treballava per ningú, jo mateixa em feia autoencàrregs, anant provant moltes coses. També em va semblar molt importat fer col·lectiu en relació amb la il·lustració, va ser també el moment en què les xarxes socials començaven a estar molt fortes i a mi em va ajudar molt. Això mès o menys cap al 2015, que és l’any que jo conto com que començo, perquè va ser l’any que me vaig donar d’alta a la Seguretat Social (diu rient). Des de llavors no he parat, com il·lustradora on he treballat més ha sigut a premsa internacional, però a mi m’agrada molt la part més d’il·lustració de tipus cartellisme o fer portades de discs. La publicitat no m’agrada gaire però també he fet alguna cosa.

FA– Com deies, com a il·lustradora has tocat bastants pals, has fet llibres, cartells, publicitat, portades de discos, etc. Però hi ha alguna cosa que encara no hagis fet que et quedi pendent?

CD– M’agrada molt l’animació i m’agradaria poder treballar amb això. Encara que ja ho he fet sempre ha sigut com encàrrec, i voldria és fer alguna cosa més personal. Però per l’animació s’ha de treballar amb animadors i amb tot un equip. És curiós que amb els diferents encàrrecs que vas rebent descobreixes coses noves que no se t’havia acudit fer. Fer cartells de concerts també m’agradaria molt, però ara mateix, sense concerts…

FA– Quina es la teva relació amb el mural? Tens ja una experiència prèvia?

CD– No n’he fet tants de murals, aquest és el cinquè. Hi ha gent que es dedica a fer mural o venen del graffiti. Jo realment no m’hi trobo realment com a muralista. Jo flipo molt amb la gent que fa murals de gran format, però crec que s’ha de gaudir, i jo tinc una relació més de mig-mig. Aquest mural el vaig acceptar fer perquè em feia il·lusió, però això requereix un temps que jo no tinc normalment, i això fa que no ho gaudeixi tant.

FA– La teva trajectòria ha coincidit precisament amb un boom del feminisme que al, diguéssim, mainstream s’ha reflectit molt en una tendència a voler publicar llibres sobre dones per part de grans editorials, aprofitant (i intentat capitalitzar) aquesta onada. Has notat personalment un canvi en la tendència en el tipus i número de encàrrecs precisament per ser dona? Com ho has viscut tu?

CD– La meva relació amb el feminisme comença als 18 anys mes o menys. Sempre hi ha algú que et va el passi, i vaig tenir molta sort perquè coneixia una noia que estava fent un màster de gènere i en aquell moment, era pot ser dels primers estudis d’aquest tipus, i a més tenia una professora de teoria de l’art, una assignatura que m’agradava molt, i la professora era molt feminista i això em va influir molt. Em vaig ficar molt a llegir sobre dones dins del món de l’art, vaig llegir moltes biografies fins i tot, em vaig posar molt passada amb tot això. Però en aquell moment era encara una cosa molt minoritària. En relació amb la il·lustració, fa uns anys va haver-hi de cop molts llibres sobre biografies il·lustrades, que a mi no m’acabaven d’interessar. Veia mes una avarícia de les editorials que no una verdadera intenció feminista. Jo l’únic que he fet en relació amb aquest tipus de coses es el llibre de Herstory. Però la veritat es que quan m’ho van oferir, em van trucar l’autora i em va explicar que amb ella i el seu company l’hi havia ofert un projecte de llibre de la història de les dones. Qui era darrere era Penguin-Random House, jo ella no sabia ben bé ni qui era, però tot això em feia bastanta pudor. No em fiava gaire de l’editorial i vaig dir que no perquè em semblava que anava a ser un feminisme molt mainstream i no volia col·laborar amb això. Després de penjar quan em van trucar… (riu) vaig trucar al meu pare i l’hi vaig dir que no sabia si havia fet bé, i ell em va dir “Cristina si això és una mica el que sempre has volgut fer i t’ho pots portar al teu terreny”, i jo sabia que tenia raó. Així que vaig parlar amb Maria Bastarós que és l’autora del llibre, ella fa coses superinteressants i està molt ficada a col·lectius feministes, a més ve del fanzine i això també m’interessava molt. D’altra banda l’altre autor, Nacho Moreno acaba de terminar la seva tesi amb relació a la representació queer a la series de televisió i la cultura popular. El que vull dir es que aquesta gent tenia una trajectòria que em semblava molt interessant i que a més venien d’un món més alternatiu i perifèric amb el que jo si que em sentia còmoda. Em va semblar que la seva intenció era potent i tenia molt bona “xixa”, i a més em van donar llibertat absoluta per la direcció d’art i l’estil. Per això vaig decidir fer-ho, però més enllà d’això no m’he ficat en aquest tipus de projectes.

FA– Vols parlar d’aquest mural que estàs fent per nosaltres?

CD– Li vaig estar donant moltes voltes, en primer lloc és un mural i s’ha de veure amb certa distància. El que no volia era ficar imatges de dones o una dona. Això sempre és complicat, perquè , quines dones, quins tipus de dones posar per què tothom tingui cabuda i és senti representada. Llavors, el que volia es que el missatge fos completament obert i que vinguis d’on vinguis tu com a dona puguis interpretar-ho a la teva manera. Sí que és veritat que he utilitzat el lila perqué em sembla que es un color molt proper al feminisme.

FA– T’agrada parlar del que poden significar les teves obres?

CD– En aquest cas m’agrada molt la idea de vincular la unió i la força amb el mar. Parlar del mar com una cosa calmada i la vegada molt revoltós, que a més es vincula les marees, els seus moviments. Com imatge, el mar, em sembla molt forta i diu molt. Aquesta idea que l’aigua en petites quantitats és una cosa inofensiva que es dilueix i no pesa, però que en grans quantitats pot esdevenir molt violenta i perillosa. Llavors em semblava molt maca la idea del mar per parlar de força. D’altra banda la imatge de la roca de vegades la faig servir vinculada als records, com representació de quan generes una memòria, o el que portes a la motxilla que són les teves roques, els teus records. En aquest mural hi ha unes quantes roques i aquest mar que trenca, però el que surt de dins en aquest cas és una flor que s’obre. També jugo amb la idea que associem a la flor, perquè no sols ser una cosa que normalment associem a la força i sigui capaç trencar alguna cosa. Està també el que jo dic «mur de contenció» que es va trencant amb un colpejar continu de l’aigua.

FA– Alguna de nosaltres deia que semblava la representació d’un orgasme.

CD– És això el que m’agrada que cadascuna ho interpreti a la seva manera. Jo puc dir que significa per mi, però trobo molt interessant quan cadascú faci la seva lectura. Les meves il·lustracions tenen una simbologia una mica onírica, on una casa no vol dir literalment una casa… jo trobo que és l’interessant de la comunicació artística: aquesta llibertat meva de dir i la llibertat del públic d’interpretar.

FA– A més la manera en que disposes els elements o les vinyetes sembla no tenir un recorregut molt clar o una jerarquia visual amb un primer cop de vista.

CD– Sí, jo intento seguir un ordre, en aquest cas les vinyetes anirien com la nostra lectura, d’esquerra a dreta i de dalt a baix, però tu això ho entregues al mon, i després la gent farà el que vulgui. Les meves il·lustracions a premsa per exemple, sempre solen anar recolzades d’un text que situa o acompanyant-ho, això és molt diferent i si que intento que sigui més tancat en el seu significat i que tingui una relació més clara i no sigui així d’obert. Però no és el mateix que el mural que em vàreu dir tu fes el que volgués, i òbviament amb la llibertat també es difícil perquè vols estar a l’altura de l’expectativa. Però el que vaig tenir molt clar eren aquestes dues coses: que fos obert i que no hi hagués persones.
